west coast of holland

Coming from Amsterdam to re-join the west coast of Holland I ducked in at Zandvoort. The entire section from here down to the Hoek Van Holland seems like a small road network. Just like the life of a car drivers. It has been constructed through the sand dunes and goes the whole way down. It’s really great.  … Continue reading

amsterdam

To get to Amsterdam I cycled on the inland east coast route. It was a nice ride starting from Harlingen then heading across the big man-made dam that cuts over the Ijsselmeer. Once in Amsterdam I was like a rabbit in headlights – always taken aback at city life – forget how it is, so I found … Continue reading

last tear-out

…and so now in Holland and it feels good to be here – the last leg, not long to go and all. Think im actually on the last road atlas tear out from the car map book. So, can’t quite pin point on what or why it is that I enjoy about being here. There isn’t anything that I find … Continue reading

sinking mud

Along the coastline near Norden there are expansive beaches with a type of clay mud. It’s supposed to be good for the skin and body. campingplatz of nice people

Arriving in Norden after a day cycling in the sun and was welcomed by the cutest German couple ever. They were on bicycles too and spending some time together away after studying. We had a lovely evening – and even played dice (?) something I have never played before. The campingplatz was filled with other cyclists … Continue reading

sights on the coastal path

Somethings that you may see on the coastal path in North West Germany…love these beach basket chairs – think they look dead romantic – perhaps reading a book together under a warm woollen blanket…bla bla blaa… having hot tea out of a flask…maybe some cheese and cucumber sandwiches – okay I’ll stop there!

smelly socks

It goes without saying that when on a bike tour there are many many days of smelling bad and today I cycled with a very kind couple from Switzerland, who cooked for me (I know – how lucky!) and I supplied the wine. They had not showered for some days and had insanely large thick beards and when I caught a … Continue reading

along the elbe

From the time spent in Germany so far, there have been many nice things to see and do and cycling along the Elbe – either side is an absolute pleasure. There are exquisite thatched cottages or mansions. There are delightful apples and cherry orchards and there are many many nice bakeries! The cycle pathways are … Continue reading

cycling the kiel

…and so this is how it all begun. Aline and myself discussing (whilst in my treatment room). “wouldn’t it be cool to cycling along the Kiel together…lets do it!” A year later we finally cycled it together. It was such a great feeling to be there and with our ship alongside us. Guess I would have never embarked … Continue reading
