west coast of holland

Coming from Amsterdam to re-join the west coast of Holland I ducked in at Zandvoort. The entire section from here down to the Hoek Van Holland seems like a small road network. Just like the life of a car drivers. It has been constructed through the sand dunes and goes the whole way down. It’s really great.

Thinking of it now – it is exactly the same as driving in the UK. For example, you have your speedy fast drivers in their sports cars – who are very impatient and want to get past NOW! (that’s the road racing cyclists who cycle in large groups very very fast). You have your sunday weekend drivers – that are just out for a slow jolly and maybe to stop to eat their packed lunch (that’s the grandparents on camping holidays with rented cycles). And then you have the campervan’s – who are taking their time to get from A-B  and getting lost, going around and around the roundabouts (these are the bike tourer’s). Its funny, but really the tracks are very nice and well laid out. I guess everyone has to see that different types of cyclists may use the routes and they should be considerate to that.

There are many occasions to take rest-bites where yu can visit the beach and stop for a snack.

Once around the Hoek Van Holland the route becomes a lot more industrial and now in Rotterdam im thinking back and it was incredibly industrial coming in from the North. I followed the ‘red’ cyclist network signposts but if there is another way to come in then I would recommend go with that to try to avoid the industrial sections – maybe loop over Rotterdam and come in from the East (?)
