nice people in denmark

I was fortunate to meet a kind and lovely couple in Henne (right at the beginning of my tour around Denmark). They are keen cyclists too and invited me to come stay when I reached the East coast of Denmark. Now I feel like I cycled some distance in the past few months, but this is nothing … Continue reading

peas

….So a man passed me on the bike today and handed me some peas…awfully nice of him.

picture postcard sunday

Since arriving in Denmark I have been treated to some exceptionally great weather. The schools are still out on vacation and I can’t help feel that everyday is a Sunday in Denmark. Nobody rushes, everyone seems to be just ‘pottering around’, its calm everywhere – just like Sundays.

8am and 8pm

These are officially my most favorite times of the day to be on the bike. It’s when the campsite kiddies are either waking or sleeping. It’s when a sense of calmness descends in the air. It’s when the colours of the landscape change. They are the best times of the day.

sitting on the tip of denmark

From Lokken onto Skagen was today. This was a lovely ride sprung with sunshine all around. I met a mature aged cyclist just as i was leaving Lokken-  this was around 10am and he was explaining in broken English that he had just come from Skagen – I was like ehh? I had given myself the whole … Continue reading

different terrains

Today I cycled on the jiggly jiggly gravel tracks, in the farmer’s field tracks, the knarley forest mountain bike tracks, the round the back of someones house tracks, cycled along the beach track, cycled the ever so polite cycle track way (must stay on the left – no right!) and then cycled the normal road tracks. Its been … Continue reading

house of clogs

On the way from Amtoft up to Lokken (North West Denmark) I came across this most lovely house decorated with tonnes of clogs. The owner had been collecting them since she was small. We both agreed on the same favorite pair.

island of mors

I cycled over the islands of Mors today and with some short snip snap ferry crossings costing approx’ 20Kr (which I think is around 1.60GBP) I had cycled the island and the sun was heading its way down. This was a lovely day and unexpected as I had first planned to head up to Thisted. I have … Continue reading

bite-sized

Heading North from Ringkobing I was struck out how Denmark just glides its way through you. Time just slips from hour to hour and the country layout (if you had to describe it) is in tasty bite-size amounts. The next village is never more than another 6km, which means there is always something new coming up and it rarely … Continue reading

food is my medicine

Whenever, wherever on this bike tour I think of food. It’s my medicine, it gets me through the day and without it im a lost cause. Even just the hint of rumbling in my tummy makes me get all figity. The other day I fell a good old smashing face to the ground, knees, elbows, ankles … Continue reading
