cycling in sweden

Cycling South from Stromstad way, and the islands are really nice and leisurely to cycle around – through fishing villages, into forestry and see that road in the picture – see it – its FLAT – I could kiss the ground to be here on the flat – its amazing! The weather was sunny and the places were hustling with ice-cream faced children everywhere.

I was not cycling on a cycle path or any particular route, just sort of cycling. It was nice. There are many towns to stop at on many occasions and this is great as there is always some new little town to see and eat cake at.

Before coming to Sweden this time, I had many many fond and special memories being here before, either with howies or with the ship and I really just had not seen it so busy, so it was sort of a shock for me at first watching all this as passing by. My hometown is near a place called Whitby and in the summer there are hordes and hordes of holiday makers that day trip there and scoff ‘fish and chips &john bulls rock’ and this is how I felt about the small towns – you sort of couldn’t move through the mass of people, guess this should be something to consider when deciding on the times of year to tour around.

One thing I can’t get my head around is the length of legs here. The Swedish girls have such lonnnng legs – they stretch right the way up to their necks it seems and compared to my short stubby legs I feel like a small (ever-expanding) dwarf. I wondered if their parents hung them upside down by their feet as children to stretch them or perhaps in the winter time they have to try to keep their torso’s above the snow? who knows but they are very long.

The campsite I pitched at for the night was nice enough and close to Hamburgsund.
