I left Tain by train today so I could make time to get up over to the Orkney/Shetlands and catch the flight to Norway. Felt very shameful that I was not cycling but equally felt so nice to cover those miles out of the saddle. Trains are fast, cycles are slow, alison on a cycle is even slower.
The views from the window were impressive – the hills were high – ohhh they were high. Saw lots of wildlife and countryside, if your into that stuff its good.
Had planned to get off at Wick but then change of plan and decided to get off Thurso to be able to pitch for more than one night. Thurso seemed nice enough – had a lovely beach and the best views of the Orkney Islands (when the cloud shifted).
