From Lokken onto Skagen was today. This was a lovely ride sprung with sunshine all around. I met a mature aged cyclist just as i was leaving Lokken-  this was around 10am and he was explaining in broken English that he had just come from Skagen – I was like ehh? I had given myself the whole day to get there and he had done it in less than a few hours – to be fair he had a good wind behind him! Either way I was on my bike to see how long it would take me – the ever so young and spritely (?) and…. it took my considerably longer. I arrived in Skagen coming up to 5pm after an afternoon bite in Hirtshalls and then a soda stop in Hulsig. Why am I so slow!!? Put a shell on my back and im in there with the snails. I wouldn’t see it frustrating because at the time I don’t think but it’s afterwards, I think what the hell was i doing that took me so long. I do sing and take lots of pics – perhaps that’s why??

Last year we had attempted to dock in Skagen but the weather was so bad that we had to turn it into a sea day (and anyone working as crew on a ship knows how tummy turning awful it is to hear those words “ladies and gentleman its going to be a sea day”- there goes the calming port day and boom books the column with massage after massage after massage) Anyway so I remember one of my guest telling me that their actual balcony windows were bending – that is how seriously windy this country gets. So where was I… of yeah it was an absolute pleasure to spend a 2 days in Skagen, soaking ups its niceness and it really is a very nice place. There are beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets and leisurely cycle routes.

The campsite was a pleasant surprise too – this was the first place for me where bikers are in one section, it was really nice chatting with others and hearing of their routes. I’m always wierded out to see people’s reactions when its ‘my turn’ to say where im heading and have been – “but your alonnnne” they say. I feel like saying “yeah and so are you”.
