this is denmark

to love or like denmark

Denmark is a bit of an odd one for me really. I know I really really like it, I just don’t know whether I can love it as much as Norway.

The way I have cycled from Hamburg (West along the Elbe and then North) you just sort of slip into Denmark and your here, all very easy. There is a great infrastructure set in place for cyclists and you can choose to cycle on them or on the roads. Sometimes for me though, the cycleway surfaces are not ideal for my bike and pannier set-up. Lots of gravel or big stones, so I jiggle about all messy and feel like I’m not really moving anywhere. If you do decide to cycle the roads the cars are dead nice and don’t make a fuss.

The wind is the wind in Denmark – no point in trying to escape it, if your lucky you will have a ball riding it. If your unlucky, then supp it up and deal with it.

So back to what’s to love about this country – the kids are SO damm cute, with their blonde hair and adorable smiles. The cycle pathways/routes are excellent for exactly this – coming on a bike tour – there are many options to cycle – local, district or the country. The tourist information centres are super nice. Did I mention the pastries yet??? Ohhh my god – the pastries are to die for. I am at the point where I cycle past the bakeries, holding my breath and looking only forward. The West coast (past Esbjerg) that I have been advancing slowly on (due to the wind) is very nice and leisurely to ride. Lots of sand dunes to dip up, down and around and fields of all colours, ohh yeahhhh I love the fact that along here you don’t see houses – you only see roofs. Denmark is a sweet treat and I look forward to seeing more.
