island people

Leaving South from Lerwick is one big hill to get over, got in granny gear and pushed on up. The weather was not the greatest – it rained from getting out of Lerwick to arriving at Setterbrae in Spiggie. I was told about a nice place to visit called St Ninnian’s and so headed on there and it was lovely – as I approached though the darkened clouds followed quickly behind me and I managed to get one picture before the heavens opened.

Taking pity on me (Gail and Sandy) invited me in for some hot soup and bread. Seriously – I thought the people were nice in Orkney Isles but the Shetland people have been even nicer. I don’t remember being so warmly welcomed around in all the places I travelled like I have been in the Shetlands.

It was a great afternoon spent listening to their Islander stories and learning about the way it is there. Seems a shame things change sometimes.

My accommodation for the night was overlooking a loch and although the weather was rubbish it was cosy and perfect in everyway.
