early start – always check timetables

I had hoped to get to the Kjerag (which is past Stavanger down the Lysefjord) on this day but the ferry timetable meant that I was only going to be able to make it another day. Not knowing this when I left at 4:30am to catch the first ferry of the day. It was very cold at this time in the morning and it was raining. The information that was given to me suggested it would take a good 4hours to get to the next ferry crossing from Skudeneshaven to Stavanger. It didn’t take that long going South, the route was long stretches with a slight wind but still it was fine. With some time to spare I dried my soaking wet tent at the port terminal.

The ferry here takes 1hour 50mins and was very busy. I slept most of the journey which was nice. The holiday in Norway means ice cream time for the children – it is very sweet seeing their faces caked in chocolate and ice-cream.

The campsite is very central to the city, although again with the holiday it was pretty packed. One thing is that there is a main road close by and this is very noisy. Caught up with the other cyclist travelling in the same direction – was sort of nice to be able to chat about stuff to do with the ride. We went for beer in the harbor front. Pay and don’t think about it in Norway.
