maps for norway

The morning was spent…sleeping! It was amazing. Then headed out of central Bergen to get to Minde and here they sold gas. Was nice to be able to have a look about of the city away from the tourist attractions. Just like most cities – gets more residential and less ‘city like’.

The route I took was actually part of the route I will be taking. From my first experience of seeing the signs it’s not that well signposted in comparison to the UK. The other cyclist bought a ‘North Sea Cycle’ map. I think it worked out costing around 20-25GBP and comes in a pack with map cards along with other information (unfortunately in Norweigan). This is more detailed than what I have and may offer you as cyclist better directions than the sign-posted markers.

I bought on single map that cost around 10GBP and shows the main cycle routes in Norway. It’s quite odd to go from Great Britain to Norway in terms of the mapping etc’ for cycling. In the UK I had used the GPS and detailed road maps to plot a route for the day – being able to use lots of short cuts – because there are so many roads. However, in Norway they are just not as many roads. When looking over the map I was thinking to myself there are not many roads on the map – must be a large scale map? But no it’s just that there are not many roads here…this does mean though that there are no short cuts either.

In the afternoon I visited the design museum in Bergen – was nice to be exposed to some art again. Funny times going from countryside, camping and being trampy to then being a city with shopping, elegant people and a night life.
