Left ‘Support Team Parents’ fairly early, had a 40miles ride ahead – did not feel too worried about it, but then the wind…ohhh the wind – it is so difficult to cycle with the weight of the panniers along with battling the wind – it is rubbish having to actually cycle downhill.
The route was challenging today. From Seahouses – plain B-roads, no problem. The route that takes you around to Holy Island and on North – well this bit you ride through the nature reserve – this is very uneven terrain, you cycle in grass and sand dunes. There are areas that you can pick up a single track (but for me – give me a straight line single track and I go everywhere but the track). The panniers were bumbling and jumping with the terrain – was grumpy.
After the nature reserve back to B-roads and all fine. I then picked up the coastal walkway/cycle route and again this was just unsuitable to be cycling on with panniers – loads of rabbit holes here there and everywhere and lots of mud hill build up (where the cows huddle together and mush up the ground) Did a typical ‘dumb and dumber’ action shot going into these mud holes – how I didn’t buckle wheel I don’t know.
Got out of the wind after… and then headed the back roads up to Coldringham where ‘Support Team Parents’ were waiting – so nice.
Was a rainy sort of night and we headed into St Abbs to see what it was about – but lashing rain and gale force wind meant we didn’t get to see that much.
